The exhibitors and the promoters anxiously awaited the premiere of the 16th Faszination Modellbau at the Karlsruhe Exhibition Centre from the 25th through the 28th of March, 2010. Messe Sinsheim GmbH organised southern Germany’s largest model building trade fair with 417 exhibitors from 13 countries including market leaders, small series producers and well stocked specialty dealers for the first time at the Karlsruhe Exhibition Centre. The exhibitors presented top quality, broad-based offerings from model building sectors including model railroading, model aircraft and car building, model truck building and model shipbuilding, as well as plastic and cardboard model building in halls 3 and 4, and in the action hall. Right from the very first day of the event, it was apparent that the premiere of the trade fair for model railroading and model sports would be a success – during the four day period well over 56,000 visitors came out to the Karlsruhe Exhibition Centre. “We’re quite pleased that we’ve been able to continue Faszination Modellbau’s success story in Karlsruhe, and that the new venue has been accepted by the visitors. The fact that contact with loyal, longstanding visitors as well as new clientele took place was a positive experience for our exhibitors”, summarises Andreas Wittur, Messe Sinsheim’s authorised signatory, with regard to the first Faszination Modellbau in Karlsruhe.
Trade Fair Venue Offers Further Growth Potential
The exhibitors and the promoter agree that the conditions which prevail at the event’s new location in Karlsruhe, which is Baden-Württemberg’s third largest trade fair facility, will have a positive effect on further development of the model building trade fair, and they unanimously praised the bright and modern exhibition halls, and the exemplary trade fair infrastructure.
Faszination Modellbau presented its time tested event concept at the Karlsruhe Exhibition Centre consisting of a top quality exhibition and attractive special shows, informative demonstrations and numerous spectacular, action-packed shows. Already upon entering the event, visitors were greeted with brilliant flight sequences at the indoor aero shown in the action hall. Submarines, tugboats and powerboats were launched in the 20 x 20 metre water basin for demonstrations, and swelling crowds gathered around the truck course when the trucks were guided over true-to-life landscape replicas. Unfortunately, rainy weather finally put an end to the New Products Air Show which was held on Saturday and Sunday, and some of the 80 award winning pilots were forced to leave their airplane models on the ground so that the New Products Air Show was unable to present its entire programme. For the first time, Messe Sinsheim GmbH provided manufacturers and small series producers with support by permitting them to invite their dealers to the trade fair free of charge on the first two days of the event.
Visitor Guidance System Plagued with Shortcomings
Kilometre long traffic jams occurred on the approach to the trade fair grounds, and Messe Sinsheim GmbH sympathises with the annoyance experienced by many of the visitors. “Although we predicted a massive influx of visitors, the Karlsruhe Exhibition Centre obviously underestimated the situation, amongst other reason because no trade fairs had thus far taken place with such truly enormous visitor numbers”, notes Andreas Wittur. We expect the visitor guidance system to be optimised and further parking space to be added for the next Faszination Modellbau Karlsruhe from the 24th through the 27th of March, 2011, making travel to the exhibition centre smoother for the visitors.
